The base of the clamp has an internal thread
that matches the Delrin insert. This allows the clamping knob to ride up and
down on that thread. the base of the clamping knob is finished off with a die
cut high grip surface.
In use the the clamp is pushed on to clamp the record,
and then screwed down to lock everything into place and apply top side damping
to the label surface. All in a simple one hand operation.
All of this is possible because of the
precision of the Technics spindle assembly, I have measured a plethora of
spindles over many many years of production and they all measure 0.280"! Just
more evidence belying the precision of this turntable.
Knowing that few audiophiles want to get up
to their elbows opening up a turntable, KAB is pleased to offer this new clamp
design that works on every variant of 1200/1210 out there and requires no
dissasembly And keeping in step with the times the price is lower then the
previous version too.
Keep in mind that we are clamping on to the existing
spindle, so that means there must be some spindle to clamp on to. The stock
platter mat is ok and I have also tested an IsoPlat mat with the thin technics
mat on top and that works fine as well.
