REMOVING THE PLATTER FROM THE SL-1200 MK2,3,4,5,M5G

There is a right way and a wrong way to remove the 1200 platter. The platter fits like a glove to the spindle. Over time these parts can
freeze together. Remove the mat and take notice of the two holes in the platter.

1. Place an index finger in each hole
   
2. Place one thumb over spindle. Place other thumb over other thumb.
3. Now squeeze fingers together. Platter should pop up.
4. DO NOT PULL UP ON THE PLATTER. That is the wrong way!
5. If the platter will not come off. You should have 2 people.
6. One lifts up the platter until resistance is felt. Hold it there.
7. Another lightly taps the spindle with a plastic tipped hammer or the handle of a screwdriver. Platter will come off.

I have seen many videos where they just pull up on the platter and it pops off. This will work for a pre loosened platter.
Most are not pre loosened and until they are, yanking up will just damage the center spindle.
But even if it is loose, it is not reccomended by KAB to do it that way.
