KAB began its relationship with the 1200
in 1994 with our Broadcast Standard version which featured 78 rpm. We were the
first to introduce the 1200 to audiophiles, when we began selling the TD-1200
tonearm fluid damping system in 2000. We introduced the very first outboard
regulated power supply for the SL1200 in 2003.
While developing the PS-1200 outboard power
supply, internal measurements showed a high frequency pulse noise interference
being generated by the strobe lamp itself. Since the strobe lamp is only needed
to set speed changes, it seemed like a wise idea to develop a strobe on/off
switch.
Since it is KAB policy never to remove standard features
nor cosmetically alter the "look" of the SL-1200, I did not want to simply
disonnect the strobe, as there are times when it is useful to see the speed
pattern. So I developed the SX1200 which allows you to turn the strobe lamp on
or off at will. The circuit installs quickly with only 3 wire connections. In
use you simply hold the start-stop button down for 5 seconds and the lamp will
disable. Hold again for 5 seconds and the lamp returns on. The lamp will self
test at power on and then automatically extinguish after approx 7-10 seconds.
The elimination of this 100 mA noise pulse further
improves the efficiency of the internal voltage regulator and may improve micro
motor control by eliminating a source of noise contamination. And remember, you
can also update the old internal regulator with our new DC-1200 voltage regulator. This new update takes even
tighter control over power distribution throughout your 1200. The SX-1200 fits
all SL-1200MK2-6 only.
