Technics SL-5100 Semi Automatic Turntable
These are robust and very reliable turntables, but as time goes by, they will require service. This page will be updated as issues are encountered and corrected.
1. RUN AWAY PLATTER SPEED.
Had 3 units that all possesed runaway platter problems. Sometimes it
occurred randomly, one was consistently doing it.
The trouble was isolated
to the solder connections for the FG servo coil on the main motor assembly
board.
In this image close up, you can see the fractured solder joint. I reccomend a little solder flux and resolder both connections. The connection on the left side is not actually connected to anything. it is the 2 on the right that are important.
2. Target Lamp Bulb Burned Out
The original bulbs are no longer available from Panasonic. you can use a 12-14V grain of wheat bulb. Or replace with an LED. If you choose to do the LED, you need a series resistor of about 1000 ohms, and you need to remove R224 [a 560 Ohm resistor] from the main pc board. Also pay attention to polarity.
