The 7" 45 RPM record was introduced in the mid
1940's by RCA and became the new format for the "hit" single. Surpassing the 78 record for convenience, durability and by design, the ability to stack records for long play sessions. Today, it is hard to find a good working automatic changer, so to play a 7" record on a regular turntable, you need a 45 adapter.
